Event Details

LAB R.A.T.S. (Research & Advancements in Technology and Science) is an after school program for middle school students at NCMNS Greenville featuring guest speakers and activities around the latest and greatest in science research.

Registration is $50 for a six week program that meets every Thursday from October 6 through November 10 from 4:30pm – 6:00pm.

Course Outline

February 23rd – Introductions, Lab safety and program goals, discuss Teen Science Cafe planning.

March 2nd- Water Corps Team- description coming

March 9th– Dr. Alexis Welch and a team of nursing students from Lenoir Community college will be sharing the accurate technology of the high fidelity simulators used in medical training in their health care labs.

March 23rd–  Visit a lab at ECU School of Medicine to learn from Dr. Francis A.M. Manno and his team of researchers who are using MRI technology to model human diseases such as hearing loss and Alzheimer’s Disease to explore the connection between hearing loss and dementia.

March 30th– Dr. Adrian Smith, head of the Evolutionary Biology & Behavior Research Lab at NCMNS will visit and share his latest research with the group. Check out his youtube page here: https://www.youtube.com/user/adrianalansmith
