The Museum’s Contentnea Creek location features 380 acres of Bray Hollow Conservancy lands in southern Pitt County just waiting for you to explore. With a variety of ecosystems and wildlife, the adventure is real. A Time For Science offers many options when it comes to engaging with nature; from camping and kayaking, to field trips and public events. Come out and explore your Naturehood!

 

Nature Saturdays

 

Visit NCMNS Contentnea Creek on Saturdays from 10am-4pm for outdoor family adventures in nature. Learn to kayak, hike the trials, and play in nature.

Enjoy Contentnea Creek’s 1.5 miles of looped trails through woodlands, wetlands, and by our ponds.

Trail Hikes

Explore the flora and fauna in the woodlands, wetlands, and ponds at NCMNS Contentnea Creek. Keep a look out for the common wildlife like the great blue heron and white tail deer

Public Kayaking

Learn to kayak in one of our shallow ponds. It’s the perfect experience for beginners and kids. Kayaking is available each Saturday from April – July. Register at the Visitors Center. 

Nature Play

Kids can have some good old fashion fun climbing on fallen down trees and hop from tree stump to tree stump all in the Nature Playscape.

Kayaking

NCMNS Contentnea Creek offers a variety of kayaking experiences throughout the year. During the summer the Saturday Adventure Pass is available for public kayaking all day long! 

Located in Grifton adjacent to the Contentnea Creek, we have a variety of wetlands and waterways to explore. From easy paddles in a shallow pond for beginners to long excursions down the Contentnea Creek for more experienced paddlers.

All rentals include life jackets and paddles. Reservations for large groups are subject to availability, so it is never too early to register!

Full Moon Paddle

Enjoy the beauty of the full moon with a night time paddle. Paddle in one of our charming ponds and roast marshmallows by the fire. Call to schedule your next adventure!

During the warmer months kayaking is available each Saturday in one of our shallow ponds. It’s the prefect experience for beginners and kids.

Primitive Camping

Book a primitive campsite on the Little Contentnea Creek or near one of our many ponds.
