The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences extends education beyond the classroom walls. Recognizing that homeschooling requires flexibility and individualized approaches to education, the museum offers homeschool-specific programs designed to complement a variety of curricula.

Looking for specific programming for a homeschool group? Field trips can be requested, with staff accommodating groups of different ages and planning trips tailored to curriculum needs. 

The Greenville location offers self-guided exploration of diverse exhibits, perfect for homeschoolers of all ages. The Contentnea Creek location features 380 acres of nature with hiking trails open from sunrise to sunset, providing an outdoor learning experience. Homeschool Exploration Days

Experience the wonder of science education with your homeschoolers at our exciting Homeschool Exploration Days!

Explore hands-on exhibits, witness thrilling live demonstrations, dive deeper into science with interactive workshops, and journey through the cosmos in our planetarium.

At the Contentnea Creek location you can connect with nature, study local flora and fauna, and explore nature in a new way.

We’ve got you covered at both our Greenville and Grifton locations, ensuring double the fun and learning opportunities.

All Homeschool Exploration Days are from 10am-12pm.

Do You See What I See? + Fall Tree ID

October 24th, 2025 – 10am-12pm
Learn about scientific classification and understand how scientists use technology to aid in their work. Leave with your own cardboard leaf ID tool!

Colorful Coding + Genetic Build a Bug

January 23rd, 2026 – 10am-12pm
Get an introduction to coding basics and the coding that makes us who we are, our DNA! Build your own unique bug to bring home!

A Windy Alternative + Weather Planetarium Show

April 24th, 2026 – 10am-12pm
Learn about the physics of wind turbines, design, build and test a turbine before enjoying a Full Dome Planetarium Show about weather.
